Medical RFID Solutions Announced By NEC, Ekahau And AeroScout
1st March 2007
InnerWireless has joined the Meru Networks VoIP Unplugged Program. InnerWireless and Meru have completed extensive interoperability testing between their products, have begun to jointly market and sell their solutions and have secured their first joint customer.
The first shared deployment from Meru and InnerWireless is Foote Hospital. “In the hospital we have a large number of disparate devices that all need to work with our wireless network,” said Rick Warren, vice president and CIO for Foote Hospital “These include cell phones, wireless badges, Wi-Fi enabled phones, mobile carts, infusion pumps and much more. With the Meru Wireless LAN (WLAN) and the InnerWireless unified wireless platform, we have the various frequencies we need everywhere in the hospital for all of these devices. Other solutions weren’t able to provide us with the guaranteed coverage and wireless network stability we needed for this environment.”
Wireless tagging vendors are taking advantage of the growing number of WLANs being installed within hospitals and are touting a range of solutions.
NEC Unified Solutions has unveiled a location tracking component for the healthcare industry. The Wi-Fi-based RFID solution operates within NEC’s Wireless Optimized Architecture to accurately track the location of medical devices, patients and hospital staff, dramatically increasing workflow efficiency and reducing costs for healthcare organizations.
AeroScout has launched the AeroScout T3 a feature-rich tag for asset and people tracking and real-time location solutions. The “credit card” rugged form factor easily attaches to a variety of compact equipment, including medical devices.
Ekahau has been selected as Nortel’s provider of location tracking solutions. Ekahau’s turn-key Wi-Fi-based RTLS should enable Nortel to offer its customers in healthcare, a way to easily and cost-effectively deploy location-based applications while maximizing investment in their wireless local area network (WLAN). The Ekahau RTLS is a software-based solution that can be implemented over standard Wi-Fi networks. It enables location of assets or people with up to 1 to 3 meter accuracy and can track more than 10,000 objects on a single server.
